Manpower is a key resource in the Laundry
& Drycleaning industry. Laundry Network Singapore recognizes
the importance of nurturing a knowledgeable and competent
work group. With this objective, TCA Textile Care Training
Centre was set up in 1997 to encourage continuing education,
skills upgrade and technology awareness. Official opening
of 1st TCA International Education Conference and TCA Textile
Care Training Centre was by Mr. Lee Suan Hiang, CEO of Singapore
Productivity & Standards Board, on 15 January 1998.

| Textile Care Educational Training Programmes: |

TCA provides textile care training programs such as
Fundamentals of Laundry and Drycleaning Operations (FLDO),
and further educational programs that lead the laundry
personnel to be a Registered Laundry & Linen Director,
approved by the American Laundry & Linen College USA
Certificate in TCA Fundamentals of Laundry & Drycleaning
Operations (FLDO) consists of the following courses:-

Laundry
Management Fundamentals - Introduction to
various operational and managerial techniques for
operating a laundry plant. Addresses soil type,
washing procedures, finishing equipment, personnel
management and washroom chemistry. |

Basic
Drycleaning - Introduction to drycleaning
operational techniques and procedures including
drycleaning principles, filtration, distillation,
solvents, detergents and moisture, and equipment. |
 |
 |
Elementary
Stain Removal Techniques - Introduction to
stain removal techniques and procedures; stain composition,
precautions and troubleshooting. |
 |
 |
Garment
Finishing Procedures & Techniques - Introduction
to quality finishing through the use of finishing
aides and equipment including step-by-step procedures
for finishing pants, coats, skirts, blouses and
shirts. |

Through its partnership with NAILM (National Association
of Institutional Linen Management, USA), TCA administers
the Certified Laundry and Linen Management Course (CLLM)
in Asia Pacific. The CLLM certification course provides
the laundry personnel the industrial recognition and
professional growth, and comprises of eight subjects;

- Includes information about leadership,
communication, motivation and team building, stress
and job performance, counseling, creativity and
problem solving, the art of negotiation, recruitment
and retention of staff and ethics and professionalism. |

Accounting
- Includes cost terms, concepts, classifications,
cost behavior, cost/volume/profit relationships,
and relevant costs for decision making. |

 |
Textiles
- Includes fiber types, fabrics, finishes,
construction and care of widely used industry products. |
 |
 |
Equipment
- Includes various equipment types, equipment
bid specifications, general and special terms and
conditions, preventive maintenance, energy conservation,
energy calculations, guidelines for equipment safety,
and hazardous communication. |

 |
Chemistry
- Includes "application-oriented' information
about soil classifications, mechanics of washing,
equipment interaction, and bacteriological aspects
of laundering. |
 |
 |
Production
- Includes equipment calculations, linen
category percentages, time requirements, FTE's and
work schedules. |
 |
 |
Linen
Management - Includes purchasing, par levels,
inventory methodology, distribution systems, systems
review, and how to develop a linen management committee. |
 |
 |
Infection Control -
Includes basic microbiology, disease producing
organisms, uses and misuses of disinfectants and
antiseptics, infection control practices and understanding
of AIDS/HIV.

Upon successful completion of the final examination,
the CLLM Designation or Certificate of Achievement is
awarded.
|
 |
|
TCA organises textile care educational conferences,
workshops on local and international basis by inviting
leading industry experts from Europe, United State of
America and Asia Pacific, to present topics on laundry
/ drycleaning technology and development.

TCA establishes contacts with international
organizations in the textile care industry to share
experience and expertise.
